Description

The Department of Food Science and Technology was established from the successive development of the Departments of Organic Agriculture, Organic Agriculture & Food Technology and Food Technology of the Technological Educational Institute of the Ionian Islands, since 1999.

Since 01-10-2018 the Department is affiliated with the School of Environment of the Ionian University, by the provision (enforcement) of Law 4559/03-08-2018.

The new curriculum of the Department of Food Science and Technology initiated the academic year 2019-2020 with admissions from the National system of Panhellenic exams.

The mission of the Department of Food Science and Technology is to provide its graduates with the essential knowledge and skills in a wide range of subjects related to food science, including the areas of production, processing, safety and quality control, microbiology, toxicology, chemistry, analyses, technology and food biotechnology to ensure a successful career in the Food sector.

The main objective of the Department is to advance Food Science and Technology via focusing on theoretical knowledge and cutting-edge applied research technologies to develop and promote innovation in analysis methods, biotechnology, production, processing, safety, quality control and food management systems.

The duration of studies is four academic years (eight semesters).
