Summary of the Internship (Practical Training) Regulations

 

  1. General characteristics of the internship

The internship is a compulsory course of the Study Programme, which:

  • corresponds to two (2) ECTS credits
  • has a duration of two (2) months
  • is assessed as “Pass/Fail”

 

  1. Internship placement providers

The internship is carried out in public or private sector organisations relevant to the field of study.

In particular, the internship may be carried out:

  • in companies or organisations selected by the student,
  • through the ESPA programme “Ionian University Internship”,
  • or abroad through the Erasmus+ programme.

 

  1. Eligibility requirements

In order for students to be eligible to undertake their internship, they must:

  • be at least in the 6th semester of studies,
  • have successfully completed at least 50% of the courses of the first six semesters (90 ECTS),
  • and have passed seven (7) out of the fourteen (14) specialization courses listed below:
  • Food Processing I
  • Food Analysis
  • Food Microbiology
  • Food Engineering
  • Food Chemistry
  • Food Biotechnology
  • Food Processing II
  • Fruit and Vegetable Science and Technology
  • Fats and Oils Science and Technology
  • Milk and Dairy Products Science and Technology
  • Industrial Fermentations
  • Instrumental Food Analysis
  • Cereal Science and Technology and their Products
  • Elective courses from Group A or B or C

 

  1. Procedure for commencement and completion

Students submit an application to the Secretariat, stating:

  • the internship provider
  • the subject of the internship
  • the expected duration of the internship period

If the internship is carried out through ESPA, students register in the ATLAS system and submit all additional required documents according to the instructions of the relevant call (including the application to the Internship Office of the Ionian University).

 

Important notes

  • The internship period must not overlap with other study programme obligations (e.g. compulsory laboratory attendance).
  • Students are strongly advised to carefully read the Internship Regulations (see above), which include detailed instructions regarding procedures for commencement and completion of the internship, selection criteria, the implementation of internships for former Technological Educational Institute (TEI) students, rights and obligations, as well as insurance coverage and remuneration of interns.
