Dr. Argyrios Gerakis holds a degree in Agronomy from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, an M.S. in Agricultural Education from the Ohio State University, USA, and a Ph.D. in Resource Development from Michigan State University, USA. 

Since 1995, he works at institutions of higher education in Greece and the USA. Since 2017, he serves as Postdoctoral Researcher in Agronomy with the Department of Food Science and Technology of Ionian University, Greece, teaches university classes and adult education courses,
and operates his own certified organic farming consultancy.

His research has revolved around simulation modeling of plant-soil-atmosphere systems, sustainable management of soil and water resources, soil microbiology, terrestrial and marine biodiversity, in vitro culture of native plants, viticulture, utilization of urban and agricultural wastes, and agricultural education and communications.

Dr. Gerakis belongs to the research team of the Laboratory of Soil Science of the Ionian University. Currently, he participates in 3 research projects funded by the Region of Ionian Islands, 1 research project funded by the Ministry of Rural Development and 1 research project funded by the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency as sole beneficiary. As university instructor, he has advised more than 30 senior projects of undergraduate students at the Department of Food Science and Technology of Ionian University and 1 Master’s thesis of graduate student from the University of Montpellier. Currently, he advises the senior projects of 2 undergraduate students.

Dr. Gerakis volunteers as reviewer in 2 international refereed journals. He has published 24 research articles in international refereed journals, of which he is senior author in 14 (h-index 11 according to Scopus, 14 according to Google Scholar), 2 book chapters, 16 packages of class notes and has presented at 30 national and international scientific conferences. His research opus has received international recognition, as evidenced by 440 citations in Scopus and 832 citations in Google Scholar.
