Dr. Eirini Katsalirou holds a degree in Agronomy from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, a Postgraduate Diploma in Land Reclamation from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and a Ph.D. in Soil Science from Oklahoma State University, USA.

Since 1992, she works uninterruptedly at institutions of higher education in Greece and the USA. Since 2012, she serves as Assistant Professor with the Department of Food Science and Technology of Ionian University, Greece.

Her research has revolved around soil microbiology and ecology, sustainable management of soil and water resources and plants (especially grapevines), soil mapping, terrestrial biodiversity, and in vitro culture of native plants.

Dr. Katsalirou heads the research team of the Laboratory of Soil Science of the Ionian University. She has participated as principal or collaborating investigator in research programs of the General Secretariat for Youth, the Green Fund, and the Region of Ionian Islands. Currently, she participates in 1 and serves as principal investigator in 2 projects funded by the Region of Ionian Islands and 1 research project funded by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

As Assistant Professor, she has advised more than 50 senior projects of undergraduate students of the Department of Food Science and Technology of Ionian University and more than 25 research projects of Erasmus+ students from French universities. Currently, she advises the dissertation of 1 doctoral candidate and the senior projects of 9 undergraduate students.

Dr. Katsalirou volunteers as reviewer in 6 international refereed journals. She has published 9 research articles in international refereed journals, of which she is senior author in 6 (h-index 5 according to Scopus, 7 according to Google Scholar), 8 packages of class notes and has presented at 21 national and international scientific conferences. Her research opus has received international recognition, as evidenced by 190 citations in Scopus and 299 citations in Google Scholar.
