Dr. Ioannis Samaras holds a B.Sc. in biology (University of Patras, Greece) and a Ph. D. degree in Biology (University of Patras, Greece). He has long (> 7 years) postdoctoral experience in the area of plant biochemistry – plant stress physiology (Dept of Biochemistry – University of Lincoln – Nebraska, Dept of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture – Purdue University, Institute of Prospective and Technological Studies – Joint Research Center EU Seville Spain). His main research interests include enzyme purification- isolation, uses of essential oils in food preservation and wine quality. He has participated in more than 15 educational and research project funded by public funds and has an experience as a principal investigator in a number of projects. He is the author of 90 publications in international journals and conferences. He served as a chairman of the Department of Food Technology the period 2010-2015. Since September 2002 he holds a position as a Professor at the Department of Food Technology of TEI of Ionian Islands and since 2018 a position as a professor at the Department of Food Science and Technology of Ionian University in Kefalonia. He is the founder and in charge of Laboratory of Wine and Spirits Quality Control of the Department.
