Dr Efstathia Skotti serves as an Assistant Professor from 2016 in the field of Toxicity evaluation and Bioactive molecules in Food, Natural Products and by-products at the department of Food Science and Technology, Ionian University. From 2006 she belonged to the Permanent Teaching Staff of the TEI of the Ionian Islands in the Departments of Environmental Technology and Food Technology. She has worked for more than 13 years as a freelancer participating in projects funded by UNEP, World Bank, Cohesion Fund, PEP, LIFE etc.

She holds a BSc in Environmental Science (University of the Aegean, Greece), an ΜSc in Environmental Engineering and Quality Evaluation (Technical University of Crete) and a PhD on Toxicity and Bioactivity Evaluation of plant products (Agricultural University of Athens).

Her research interests include the analysis of plant products, foods, microorganisms and food industry by-products based on chromatographic methods (HPLC-UV/Vis, TLC), identification of its components with spectroscopic methods (UV-Vis, FT-IR), study of the biological of action with microbiological methods and molecular techniques (PCR) as well as the assessment of the toxicity of natural products, foods and by-products of food industries with indicator microorganisms with conventional and automated techniques.

She has published 21 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, 3 book chapters, and has co-edited a book. She is an evaluator/reviewer of scientific publications in international scientific journals and participates in the editorial board of 2 peer-reviewed scientific journals. Her research work has >864 citations.
